Ni We present systematical Raman studies of nitrogen doped graphene (NG). Defective graphene by Ar ion bombardment was also studied for comparison. It was found that the defects/nitrogen dopants in NG are not homogenous. Our results also suggest that the G peak position and I2D/IG ratio cannot be simply used as fingerprint of doping concentration in NG. Both doping and compressive strain (as verified by transmission electron microscope) contribute to the shift of Raman peaks, while both doping and lattice defects contribute to the attenuation of 2D peak. Finally, the nature of defects in NG was probed and found that they are boundary defects. The detail analysis of the evolution of Raman spectra in NG would greatly help on the characterization and future application of this novel material. 2013 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

The effect of doping Graphene Quantum Dots with K, B, N, and Cl on its emitted spectrum

In this work, the effect of doping Graphene Quantum Dots (GQDs) on their emission spectra has been studied. First, graphene has been deposited on SiC substrate by using sublimation method. Second, doped-GQDs have been distributed on the surface of graphene via drop casting. The structure of the samples have been studied and characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy ...

Ultrasensitive molecular sensor using N-doped graphene through enhanced Raman scattering

As a novel and efficient surface analysis technique, graphene-enhanced Raman scattering (GERS) has attracted increasing research attention in recent years. In particular, chemically doped graphene exhibits improved GERS effects when compared with pristine graphene for certain dyes, and it can be used to efficiently detect trace amounts of molecules. However, the GERS mechanism remains an open q...

Chemical vapor deposition of N-doped graphene and carbon films: the role of precursors and gas phase.

Thermally induced chemical vapor deposition (CVD) was used to study the formation of nitrogen-doped graphene and carbon films on copper from aliphatic nitrogen-containing precursors consisting of C1- and C2-units and (hetero)aromatic nitrogen-containing ring systems. The structure and quality of the resulting films were correlated to the influence of the functional groups of the precursor molec...

The roles of lithium-philic giant nitrogen-doped graphene in protecting micron-sized silicon anode from fading

A stable Si-based anode with a high initial coulombic efficiency (ICE) for lithium-ion batteries (LIB) is critical for energy storage. In the present paper, a new scalable method is adopted in combination with giant nitrogen-doped graphene and micron-size electrode materials. We first synthesize a new type of freestanding LIB anode composed of micron-sized Si (mSi) particles wrapped by giant ni...

The effect of atmospheric doping on pressure-dependent Raman scattering in supported graphene

Atmospheric doping of supported graphene was investigated by Raman scattering under different pressures. Various Raman spectra parameters were found to depend on the pressure and the substrate material. The results are interpreted in terms of atmospheric adsorption leading to a change in graphene charge carrier density and the effect of the substrate on the electronic and phonon properties of g...
